Bill turned to their guest. “Well, before I injure someone demonstrating my boomerang prowess, why don’t we sit down and get this meeting started?” Boomerang nodded, “Very well. But if you don’t mind, let’s continue the discussion out here in the fresh air. I’ll be able to show you the value of a boomerang better.” As his eyes focused on a target on the horizon, he tossed a large three-edged ’rang, “Before I discuss my ’rangs, I need to learn more about you and your store. How’s business?” Janice was embarrassed but spoke up, “Well, we’ve been trying everything to increase sales…you know, lowering prices, adding new products, more advertising, offering extended hours — you name it! But we haven’t seen any progress at all — it’s very confusing.” Boomerang listened, then said, “It seems you already know you have a problem, and you’ve identi昀椀ed at least a couple of solutions. But there’s something missing from what you’re telling me. What about your customers? You haven’t mentioned them once.” Janice piped up, “Sure we have. We’re lowering prices and advertising aggressively to bring in as many customers as possible.” “Right, you mentioned that,” their guest continued, “but what about your customers — your loyal customers?” 13
